Admission into Nigeria tertiary institutions such as Universities, Polytechnics, Monotechnics & College of Education requires screening by Joint Admission & Matriculation Board (JAMB).
JAMB conducts two examinations for admission into Nigeria Schools namely: Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) Examination.

From inception, JAMB UTME & DE was conducted as a paper-and-pencil test until 2014, when Computer-Based Test (CBT) was introduced.
Both forms of examination has witnessed massive records of malpractices and the board, over time have introduced new measures to curb examination malpractice.
Banning specific items that could compromise the orderliness of the examination is one of the measures the board has often revised on.
Here are 16 new items that are prohibited from JAMB exams hall:
- Wrist watches
- Smart pen/biro,
- Mobile phones or similar electronic devices,
- Spy reading glasses which should be scrutinised,
- Calculators or similar electronic devices,
- USB, CD, hard disks and/or similar storage devices.
- Books or any reading/writing material,
- Ink/pen readers,
- Smart lenses,
- Smart rings/jewellery,
- Smart buttons and
- Bluetooth devices
The 16 Items above are prohibited for the JAMB mock examination as well as the Examination proper and the ban rule covers both JAMB candidates and officials including authorized persons.
